Best Selling Young Adult Fantasy Author to Help "Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation" Make a Wish Come True
Phoenix, AZ September 14, 2007. Stephenie Meyer, best selling author of the young adult fantasy series "Twilight," is helping Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation make the dreams of an aspiring 14-year-old writer and her terminally ill mother come true. When Ms. Meyer learned about Alexandria, the young novelist who regards her as an idol and creative muse, she was eager to meet with her and her mother for a night of dinner and novel writing conversation.
In 2003, Alex's mother Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer and has spent the past four years in a continual battle against the disease. Although meeting with Stephenie Meyer is the fulfillment of their wildest dreams, Mary's fondest wish is still to see her daughter's manuscript in print.
When asked why she chose to wish for her daughters dream instead of the Hawaiian vacation she had always wanted, Mary replied, "Trips are nice, but this would fulfill what I needed to do for my daughter - it has been tough for her."
Alex has spent countless hours as a companion to her mother during the grueling cancer treatments and never once complained about the time she spent at the hospital. Mary wants nothing more than to repay her daughters kindness and compassion. Having spent much time in her younger years as a band promoter, she would love to help her daughter promote her manuscript in the same manner as she once helped strangers. However, the chemotherapy treatments take an exhausting toll on her, leaving no strength for such tasks.
Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation has stepped up to that role and is seeking a publishing house that is willing to take the raw unpolished talent of this young woman and transform it into a narrative gem. The Foundations mission is "to grant wishes, including memory-making events, for metastatic breast cancer patients, while continuing to support, educate and increase resource awareness." With that goal in mind, Making Memories is asking the public to help make a last wish come true for a young girl and her ailing mother.
We are about more than granting wishes, every day we are in the business of touching the lives of those diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. The tragedy of this illness is not merely the physical and emotional impact, but the immense financial strain it puts upon a family. The toll can be devastating, when the insurance is exhausted and extensive medical treatments deplete bank accounts, there is often little or no money left for special moments set aside from the everyday sadness and turmoil of "saying goodbye."
Making Memories is continually searching for innovative ways to invite individuals and businesses to rally for the cause and make a difference in the lives of others. The Foundations wish-granting funds provides a chance to delight in sharing one last dream together with their families, for women and men for whom a cure is too late. With so many unfulfilled wishes and dreams awaiting your assistance, now is the time to join with other selfless people who support the various fundraising endeavors.
