Sending Well Wishes,
To One Who Helps Grant Wishes
If you have chosen your "dream gown" from or volunteered at a "Making Memories, Nationwide Tour of Gowns" sale, then chances are the Foundation's most notable volunteer has made her special imprint upon your life.
Dorothy (Dot) Joralemon, being a two-time breast cancer survivor, has a passion and appreciation for Making Memories mission. She understands the true value of helping others who are less fortunate than she is.
At the age of 88, this live wire runs circles around the younger volunteers, and loves witnessing the moments when a radiant bride finds that "perfect" dress. Her favorite task is pinning the embroidered pink ribbons onto a purchased wedding gown as a simple reminder that each bride plays a part in Granting Wishes and Touching Lives.
Spending three years jetting about the country to participate in the many "Nationwide Tour of Gowns" sales, earned her Making Memories 2006 "Volunteer of the Year Award." Her daughter, Barbara Raskin, Eastern Region Director of Making Memories, says her mother adores being in the middle of the action, not only at gown sales, but lending a hand every week at Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation's only store front in Santee, SC. Through her combined activities, Dorothy logged more than 2,000 volunteer hours last year.
Sadly Dot's ever present smile will be absent for a while from the "Nationwide Tour of Gowns," this year, on February 6, she took a tumble and has spent the past few months recuperating. It will be a long frustrating road to recovery for someone who is use to doing for others.
Recently the mother/daughter team moved to Santee to reside nearer the store during Dorothy's recuperation. If you would like to send a get-well card or note of thanks to Making Memories' most cheerful volunteer address them to:
