THE DOWNS GOLF FACILITY TO HOST CHARITY EVENT
OLDSMAR, Fla. (Oct. 9, 2006) – On Tuesday evening, October 24th , the Downs Golf Practice Facility located at 10327 Race Track Road will host “An Evening for Kelly Jo,” featuring several PGA and LPGA Tour professionals; including “invited” appearances by Rich Beem, John Huston, Woody Austin, Greg Kraft and Brittany Lincicome. Also appearing will be Dakoda Dowd the outstanding amateur from Tarpon Springs. The evening event is co-sponsored by the Tampa Tribune, Hooters, TNT Roofing, T & D Golf, Ginn Resorts and Tampa Bay Downs and is being held as a fund raiser for Kelly Jo Dowd and her charity Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation.
Dakoda, the 13-year-old golf prodigy from Tarpon Springs, is currently the highest ranked female golfer in her age group and a regular student of Matt Mitchell, instructor at the Downs. Her family is enduring a personal crisis with Kelly-Jo Dowd’s (Dakoda’s mother) ongoing battle with cancer and the monies raised will be placed in the Making Memories Foundation for Cancer victims.
Brittany Lincicome is currently in the top 10 of the 2006 LPGA official money list with over $ 830,000.00 in earnings including winning the Match Play Championship.
Special clinics and personal appearances by Rich Beem, John Huston, Woody Austin, Greg Kraft, Brittany Lincicome and Dakoda will begin at 7:00pm with your chance to pick-up a tip or two from the pros.
$ 25,000.00 If you make a PUTT !! Sounds possible and hopefully someone will win this prize in the TNT Roofing and T & D Golf putting contest.
Throughout the event golf demos by all the big names in golf clubs will take place on the tee line; with Titlist, Mizuno, Cobra, Tour Edge, Razor, Bridgestone, US Kids, Gunin Rife Putters, all displaying and demonstrating their new products.
To round out the golfing experience Hooters, Chris’s Cookies and Tampa Bay Downs will be selling selected food items and wine sampling sponsored by Grapevine Liquor (you must be at least 21 years of age to participate in this event)
A special area will also available to bid on numerous silent auction items from Benefit Golf or to simply donate to the foundation. To improve your golf game local PGA professionals will be offering FREE 10 minute golf lessons.
